Autumn in the Abbey
The stillness of the dusky morning
introduces a broken whitish sky
filled with pale grey tufts of cotton wool.
Rustling leaves and scattered sparkling birdsong
hold forth against a backdrop of white noise
fading out behind the peace.
In the half light colours emerge,
mossy camouflaged flints and velvety yews dance
amongst the dispersed displays of green.
Russet jewels sprinkled in the grass
with earthy decay and overshadowed by
stoney structures and the cathedral bell calls time.
